Common Challenges Seniors Face When Downsizing
Moving and downsizing are never easy tasks for anyone, but they are even more difficult when mobility and strength are issues. Many seniors find that they can’t safely move large furniture that are staples of many homes, that they can’t navigate tight corners without damaging walls, and that the whole experience is a ton of time on your feet for a day. Facing these challenges, many retirees are finding that junk removal services are a much better route to take, especially when there is a limited number of family members you can bring in for extra help.
How Junk Removal Services Can Help
Here’s how junk removal services from a professional can help a moving senior:
Safe Lifting and Heavy Item Removal
Especially for a senior, moving heavy items like furniture and appliances is not a safe task. Besides risking significant harm to one’s self, there is ample opportunity to destroy your objects too if not lifting/transporting correctly. Junk removal services specialize in moving unruly objects, coming with years of experience and the right tools/techniques to make the job look easier than it is. Plus, being able to donate these large pieces of furniture or move them to the next location for use makes your life that much easier.
Sorting, Donations, and Disposal Options
Sorting, disposing, and donating are another key aspect of a home cleanup. These tasks can be tedious and weigh on the fine motor skills of an individual. Professionals can help organize, pack, and then get rid of any extra materials that you no longer need in the house while working with you to ensure that only the correct items are thrown away.
Dumpster Size Guide for Junk Removal
Depending on the size of your project and the type of junk being removed, there are a number of different dumpster sizes to optimize space and holding capacity. Read on to learn more.
When to Hire Professionals
For junk removal for seniors, bringing in a professional should always be on the mind. Particular instances where their services are a must include home cleanups, home moving, downsizing, and general junk removal. Be sure to reach out to professionals with ample time beforehand to ensure you can reserve your day on the schedule.
Preparing for a Junk Removal Appointment
Preparing for junk removal can entail a few different things depending on what you want from the experience. First, having a clean path to move items in and out of your space is crucial. Not only does this save time for when the professionals arrive, but also helps reduce the risk of injury around the move. Second, having items clearly organized can dramatically speed up a job. This includes separating and labeling items that will stay, that are being donated, and that are being thrown away. A professional’s life is much easier when they don’t have to ask the destination for every object they touch. Third, create a general plan for your move and the objects that are moving. This entails having an idea of where the couch will go in the new location, for example, to ensure your new space is ready to be lived in.
Cost Considerations and Value
It can be hard to quantify the value of bringing in a professional for junk removal. The time they can save on a job alongside the headaches they prevent create a better service than the price indicates. Especially if you struggle or can’t perform a move alone, these services can be truly priceless for getting a piece of independence back as you shift into retired life. Plus, the relief of a clean space in day-to-day life can bring people a lot of peace in their homes.
